Leading Laundry Services Provider Distributes Books and Toys to Local Children's Hospitals and Schools
Service Directions, Inc., (SDI), the Pelham, New York based laundry services provider, brightened the 2000 holiday season for hundreds of children with the distribution of free activity books and toys to hospital-bound youngsters and school students throughout metropolitan New York.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, December 18, 19, and 20, 2000, SDI Chief Operating Officer Steve Jagde and Vice President of Sales Mark Eisler visited the children's wings of Montefiore Medical Center and Columbia Presbyterian, and the Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, bearing gifts that included the newly-published SDI Fun and Activity Book and age-appropriate toys that had been purchased by
SDI President Ron Garfunkel. Jagde and Eisler distributed the gifts to the many ill and injured children who called the hospitals home for the holidays. In total, SDI distributed 2,000 books and toys to the hospitals and also to local elementary schools.
Citing SDI's "kind and generous efforts" and the "outstanding" quality of the gifts, Montefiore Medical Center Vice President of Development Susan J. Kind wrote in a letter of thanks to SDI, "We are very fortunate
to have the support of so many wonderful individuals." Likewise, Westchester Medical Center Child Life Program Director Tricia Hiller thanked SDI saying, "Donations such as yours help to brighten the day
for both the children and their families. I hope the smiles from the children helped everyone realize that they made a difference."
"Making a positive difference in the community and for our customers," says Jagde, "is the SDI difference." In point of fact, SDI has cultivated a reputation for reaching out to the community in a variety
of ways. For example, the company has been honored repeatedly by Westchester ARC, a chapter of the New York State ARC and a United Way Agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, for its
on going employment of developmentally disabled persons. SDI also has earned the New York State Employer Recognition Award and the Westchester County Office for the Disabled Certificate of Merit.
A privately held company, SDI operates and services 20,000 washing machines and dryers in 1,800 locations throughout the New York area, including residential co-ops, condos, and rental buildings, college and
university dorms, nursing homes, and hospital housing facilities, as well as commercial and industrial customers.
"The SDI goal is to foster lasting and respectful relationships with our customers while we work to create the best possible laundry facilities," says SDI President Garfunkel. "As members of the community at large, we recognize our obligation to give back whenever we can as an expression of gratitude for our success."
