SECURE ACCESS

A wave of illegal parking in garages is finally being attacked by new security technology. As we enter the age of "intelligent transportation," most new vehicles on the market today have built-in garage door openers that are installed by the manufacturer. These built-in remote devices learn a garage receiver’s code by picking up a signal transmission from an authorized remote during activation. This process is similar to that performed by code-grabbing equipment which is commonly used for the theft of cellular phone numbers.

A proprietary system that relies on a Personal Identification Number (PIN), has begun to end this profit-grabbing problem. Results from PIN-based technology systems are being reported. In the parking garages of on ACI customer, 4000 revenue generating parking spaces were collecting revenues from only 2500 spaces. Upon installation of a proprietary, "intelligent" RF remote system, revenues increased 50%. In addition, the system’s database driven tracking capability allowed the building to prevent unauthorized vehicles from gaining access to garages, while identifying people no longer eligible to park in the facility.

NYC FIRE CODE

According to the code, a roof door in a high-rise building cannot be locked due to the potential danger caused by a fire. While well intentioned, this could lead to a security breach in a building’s roof stairwell. One technology that has been particularly successful in providing security is a motion-detector system. Mounted at the highest point in a stairwell, the system is capable of detecting body heat. Upon detection, a local or wireless network alarm is triggered. If desired, security or law enforcement can be dispatched to the site, thus reducing the chance of further access violations.
