HURRICANE FLOYD AN UNWELCOME VISITOR AT NYARM REAL ESTATE EXPO '99
|
Several hundred hearty attendees braved the elements and threw caution to the wind attending the NYARM Real Estate Expo 99 on Thursday, September 16th at Madison Square Garden. Despite the unwelcome arrival of Hurricane Floyd these hardy souls attended two educational seminars and visited over 100 exhibits at NYARMs 11th annual convention. SEMINARS The Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures seminar was presented by Stephen Elbaz, Esquire Management along with Captain Thomas Tropea from the fire safety education division of the New York City Fire Department. Easy Money: New Sources for Additional Income was moderated by Vince Callagy, Knickerbocker Village with panelists Jordan Goldman, Bargold Storage Systems and Jeffrey Moerdler, Wolf Block Schorr and Solis-Cohen, LLP. Unfortunately, the much anticipated afternoon seminar, Property Management for an Aging Population was cancelled due to the increasingly inclement weather and the advice of New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani that all city residents stay at home during the afternoon hours when the worst of the storm was expected to hit. MEDIA ALERT That advice from the mayor, along with official statements that major bridges and arteries would be closed, subway service and commuter railroads might be imminently shut down, and torrential rain would hit the city led to the decision to reschedule the afternoon seminar at a time and venue to be announced at a future date. The annual ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by NYARM President P. Leonard Jones, along with Executive Director Donna Klein, members of the NYARM Board of Directors and those vendors and visitors who "made it through the rain." RAFFLE WINNERS Congratulations to our three raffle winners: Arthur Meltser, Goodman Management; Darnley Simon, HPD and Irwin Cohen, A. Michael Tyler Realty. Each correctly completed a raffle card with 15 exhibitor stamps and NYARM validation. Each winner will receive a check for $500! NYARM would like to take this opportunity to thank those who, in spite of the incessant dire weather warnings and predictions broadcast by the media, school closings and the Mayors decision to shut down the city, came out in record numbers to support our organization. This is the spirit and dedication that continues to make NYARM the number one real estate managers organization in this city. This spirit exemplifies the fortitude and gumption of our membership. Please look to future editions of this newspaper for the time and location of the rescheduled seminars and once again, our heartfelt appreciation to all who supported our association under the most difficult of circumstances.
