P. LEONARD JONES
I always look forward to writing this
monthly missive to convey to you, our reader, the many and diverse activities
and events NYARM is currently presenting. This months message should have
been the most enjoyable because I report on the biggest networking activity
on the NYARM calendar, the NYARM Real Estate Expo 99. But, because of
a very unwanted visitor, Hurricane Floyd, the NYARM Expo was not able to realize
its full potential. (Some would say that Floyd didnt either, at least
in the City!)
Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, guided by national weather reports and his Office of Emergency Management, essentially closed down the city. Threatening to close bridges, tunnels, subways and commuter railways and warning all to stay out of the city only those heartiest of souls found their way to Madison Square Garden for the NYARM Expo.
But attend they did! Hundreds of managers, superintendents and building owners ventured forth to examine and experience the latest technologies, products and merchandise from the more than 100 exhibitors. Many sought out information at the two seminars presented that morning, Fire Safety and Sources for Additional Income. Hardy souls they were and definitely there to do business! After all, why else would they have ignored the warnings of the media and Mayor?
Personally, I would like to thank each and everyone of those who attended as well as the exhibitors who made it into midtown. The office has received numerous calls from those who didnt attend requesting a "rain" date. Unfortunately, a production the size and scope of the NYARM Expo cannot be redone. We are planning to reschedule the third seminar of the day, Property Management for an Aging Population. We will let you know, through this newspaper, the date and venue. We hope that you will join us next year at Expo 2000.
And, although no one can blame NYARM for the weather, in a gesture of good faith, we have offered the exhibitors a 25% coupon off Expo 2000. We hope they will take us up on this offer and exhibit at the largest fall/winter tradeshow in the real estate industry.
