NYARM LAUNCHES MISSION STATEMENT

P. LEONARD JONES

For many the new millennium, the new century, the new year (whatever you wanted to call it) spurred them to reorganize, rethink and/or regroup. The NYARM Board of Directors felt this year presented the opportunity to do just that.

Twice this year the NYARM board members have met with a professional facilitator in search of developing a strategic plan for the future. Most importantly, we needed to develop a mission statement, a proclamation that would embrace the direction of the organization. The following is the product of those deliberations:

"NYARM is dedicated to raising the standard of excellence for the real estate professional through education, information, legislative initiatives and a peer network that makes NYARM the benchmark for technological advancement and career enhancement."

We will advocate and advance this statement in NYARM promotional material, this newspaper and whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. The Board encourages you to adopt the message this statement fosters.

NYARM's 42 year old by-laws have undergone a long overdue revision and are currently being reviewed by the Board. Upon approval we will forward them to the membership.

Every NYARM member received an invitation in the spring to volunteer for the committee of their choice. We had an overwhelming response and committee chairmen will be contacting those volunteers as the groups start to meet.

The Board developed a number of goals, the most important of which was to grow membership. The board set a goal to double our membership by July, 2001 and increase membership by 200 each year for the next 5 years. This is not an unrealistic target. With an aggressive incentive plan and the help of our dedicated members we should be able to surpass this easily.

The Board also resolved to vigorously pursue getting a manager licensing bill passed in Albany. An open letter to the boards and tenants of cooperatives and condominiums was placed in the September issue of The Cooperator imploring their support in this effort.

As always, we invite our members and readers to join with us in our endeavors. We also invite you to share with us your thoughts and ideas. This is as much a cooperative effort as the buildings you live in and manage. Become a member, participate in our functions, attend our events. Be part of the #1 real estate manager's organization in New York.
